6 1/2 furlongs on the sloppy track (Maiden Special Weight)
I have not posted one of these in awhile. In Belmont’s fifth race Todd Pletcher offers up an entry of two first–time filly starters that that are working very well in preparation for their debuts today. The 1 is Anchorage, a $540,000 purchase for the Boys in blue and orange, as I like to call it “Team Tabor”. Her sire is Tapit. She had a strong gate work on the 9/14/09, which is always a good sign. Javier Castellano will have the mount. Tomlinson wet figure (375) The 1A and what could be the stronger part of the entry is Female Drama who has been working lights out, including a blistering 59 handily gate work on 9/16/09. In addition, four sharp handilys before that and her last work was a snappy 1:00. She is by Indian Charlie, who according to Brisnet, is an A+ first time out sire. Her dam sire is Dixieland Band. She is a homebred who will have Rajiv Maragh aboard in her debut today. She looks ready to go today. The Track will be sloppy, and, as I write this, both parts of the entry are in. Tomlinson wet figure (390). This girl is the one I like the most in this race.
And there is one more worth a mention. The 10, A Plus who has thrown in some very sharp works herself. And A Plus is another who sports a sloid gate work on 9/7/09. A $190,000 purchase and son of my main man, or in this case horse, Smarty Jones. A Plus is certainly another one of the first timers in this race that should show some solid turn of foot early and be a contender in today’s Race 5. And on a side note. The James Jerkens/John Velasquez combo is clicking 47% out of the 17 times he has ridden for Jerkens. Just a tidbit. (Tomlinson wet figure 343)
The Mott horse Whoopty Whoopy would have probably been the favorite but was an early scratch.
