6-year-old Kiss the Kid ended his racing career Friday night at the Meadowlands with a game effort in running second in the Grade II Meadowlands Cup to winner Etched. Kiss the Kid rallied on the far turn and made a long sustained drive on the outside of Etched. He came up a little short of going out a winner. He was getting there, but ran out of room. Once again he showed his affinity for a sloppy track with another strong run over it. Darley’s Etched won his third consecutive race and made it four wins out of five career starts. Etched ran the 1 1/8 miles in a near track record time over a sloppy track in a sharp 1:45.93. The track was playing to speed all night, and the times reflected that as well. Kiss the Kid finished his career with 8 career wins out of 34 starts, and earnings of over $700,000, earning over half of that on the turf. Kiss the Kid is expected to stand at Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla.
