The build up to the Cheltenham Festival is gaining speed with all the top prospects getting themselves geared up for a serious challenge for top honours at the much anticipated annual renewal in March.

Part of the profile that ante-post horse betting punters love when selecting their Cheltenham bets is an unbeaten record. And one horse with a chance of arriving at the Festival with an unblemished record is Time For Rupert. The Paul Webber-trained seven-year-old is a firm favourite with backers, boasting a career level stakes profit for the “Blind-Backer” of a magnificent £102.41 and is unbeaten in two novice chase events this season.

The smart chestnut gelding was second to Big Bucks in last year’s Ladbrokes World Hurdle and is currently available at 11/4 for the RSA Chase in March.

However, the big test en-route to Festival glory this year will take place this Saturday at Cheltenham where Webber has entered his charge in the Argento Chase. The field is expected to be very strong, including top horses such as Tidal Bay and Little Josh, and a solid performance will be necessary to get anywhere near the winning line first.

The bookmakers seem to fancy the horse’s chances with the best odds being offered a rather skinny-looking 2/1 and as the trainer has indicated preparations have been going smoothly with the horse making good progress at home we should look at this horse carefully. Indeed, the word in racing circles is that this could be a late developing horse that will be making quite a few headlines at the Festival this year.
